The Story of tB
Guitarist, composer, producer, Mountain Dew enthusiast

Meet Taylor Batory
Hi, my name is Taylor Batory and I’m an independent musician, composer and producer originally from Richmond, MI, USA, now residing in Ontario, Canada. I’m a graduate from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where I studied music and media arts. I also briefly attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA as part of their summer program.
I first got inspired to pick up the guitar when I saw the movie School of Rock in theaters. My parents had gotten me a starter guitar for my birthday some time around 2005, and I’ve been playing guitar ever since. I also play bass, drums, and keyboard (very poorly). It wasn’t until about 2009 when I started writing my own music and I eventually started recording and self producing my songs in 2011 or so. Over time, I slowly cultivated my writing/mixing process and continue to refine it all the time, even now. All of my albums have been entirely self produced, and I’ve even done some commission and client projects as well, including film scores and session work.
The many sides of tB Audio
My primary output comes from my solo project, which is called tB Project, where I write and produce conceptual progressive metal. I’m also a main contributor in an international metal band called Biledriver, which was founded on the Images & Words Discord server. Lastly, I’m one half of the jazz fusion duo Carnival Life, working alongside my friend Scott Arnold.
Growing up, I mostly followed and listened to whatever my friends were listening to, like Mushroomhead and System of a Down. Naturally, I was in a band as a teenager, and we mostly just did covers, usually of songs easy enough for us to play, so a lot of Red Hot Chili Peppers. But one day while I was scrolling around Newgrounds after a hard day at high school, I heard the Dance of Eternity by Dream Theater, and thus my fascination with progressive metal was born. I discovered a whole new breadth of bands making music I didn’t know was possible. Things really changed when I heard (and eventually understood) Between the Buried and Me’s 2007 album “Colors”. Since then, BTBAM have been a major influence of mine and it’s definitely shaped how I approach arranging and assembling songs and albums. Some other artists I’m a big fan of are Karnivool, Night Verses, OSI, Beardfish, Counting Crows, The Midnight, Frank Zappa, and Snarky Puppy just to name a few.
Outside of making music, I’m a video game nerd. I’ve been an avid gamer ever since I first played Wave Race 64 as a kid. I still sometimes get obsessed with certain games and I’ve recently become a bit of a PC gamer, so it’s opened me up to a lot of new games I likely never would have played otherwise. I also sometimes work on editing videos for my various musical projects including playthrough videos and vlog style updates. I’d like to eventually devote more time into getting better at video editing, but for now, it’s a fun side project to film and put together videos to share around.
As I type this, I realize I don’t have many other hobbies since I work on music most of the time, haha! Anyways, hopefully this gives you a little bit of background on who I am and what tB Audio is about. If you have any questions, feel free to use the contact form and reach out to me.
